It’s time to get ready for New Homes Week. This year, the consumer awareness campaign from The Home Builders Federation (HBF) takes place from 27 February to 3 March. The campaign has been named ‘Make your move’ and will focus on the many benefits of new build homes. We find out more…
What is New Homes Week
New Homes Week is an annual initiative to shine a spotlight on new-build homes; to communicate their benefits and drive interest in them versus older, established properties. The campaign was started by the HBF back a few years back and has gone on to become a firm fixture in the hew homes calendar. This year’s campaign comes at a time of great uncertainty for many, with sky-high energy bills and a cost-of-living crisis. In fact, these factors are making a cross-section of homebuyers question whether now is a good time to buy. And for this reason, this year’s campaign helps to address the positives around buying a new build home, including the financial ones.
The Make your move campaign
Each year, New Homes Week is centred around a different campaign focus. This year, the campaign concentrates on the concept of ‘Make your move – get on with living’. The idea around it is to educate homebuyers to the many comforts living in a new build home can bring. The biggest benefit is the way new homes are built. Being built to modern standards, a new build home is much more energy efficient (lower bills) and comes with no upgrade works to complete (less stress). Plus, never have there been more consumer protections in place for new home buyers (again, less to worry about). And when it comes to new homes, housebuilders often run incentives or offer discounts – something you’ll never get with an older property. The buying process is far simpler too…
So, rather than hold off from buying a new build home due to current pressures, it’s worth looking at the flip-side and the benefits of buying new. You can then on get on with making your next home move and living comfortably for years to come.
Watt a Save from the HBF
As part of this year’s campaign, the HBF have released updated figures on annual energy savings with new build homes. The Watt a Save report serves to highlight the financial benefits and carbon efficiency of new homes compared to older properties – both being crucial selling points. And financial savings are much welcomed at a time when many people’s finances are stretched. With the rising costs of energy prices and household utility bills, never has having an energy efficient home been more desirable.
Looking at the overall findings in the report, new build home buyers are saving over £500 million a year in energy bills, while collectively reducing carbon emissions by over 500,000 tonnes. When you look at the figures per household, new home buyers save over £2,000 on household bills per year – this equates to around £174 per month. And if you look at the data for houses specifically, as opposed to flats, the savings are greater. With a new build house, new home buyers save £216 per month, which is an annual saving of £2,600.
And of course, energy prices are expected to rise again in April, which will help new build home owners save even more.
