New Homes Week 2025 is here. It started on Monday 3rd February and runs all the way through until Sunday 9th February 2025. And the theme this year is ‘Community’. Find out more all about it…
What is New Homes Week?
Started by the Homebuilders Federation back in 2005; it is an annual, week-long, awareness-raising campaign to celebrate and highlight the benefits of new build homes. It also gives a platform to housebuilders and other businesses involved in the home building industry. Each year a different theme is chosen for the New Homes Week campaign, and this year’s theme is ‘Community’.
A focus on ‘community’
Yes, the theme this year is ‘community’ and recognising the value of creating community spirit in modern new home developments. It focuses on the investment new build developments bring to local areas by way of new and improved schools, sports facilities and open spaces. Building not just homes and places to live, but communities.
With these new facilities and amenities, a strong sense of community is more easily harnessed. The shared spaces such as gardens, parks and community centres enable greater interaction and belonging, helping people foster immediate connections. .
New home buyers want a sense of community
The HBF released new research in partnership with Rightmove at the start of New Homes Week. It revealed that being part of a community is a crucial factor when it comes to homebuyers choosing where to live. Firstly, an initial study of over 1,000 consumers from Rightmove’s research panel confirmed that relationships with neighbours, local area upkeep and local parks are mostly sought by buyers when purchasing a new home.
This research followed Rightmove’s latest Happy at Home Index where 35,000 people were asked about the factors most influencing their overall happiness. Coming out top was feeling proud of the area where they live. As well as that, a ‘sense of belonging’ and ‘being able to be oneself’ ranked highly, alongside recreational activities and access to sports.
The research goes to show that community-centric factors are growing in importance. From safety to cleanliness and neighbourly relations to having spaces that nurture both emotional social well-being.
