Read about Miller Homes' new chairman appointment and growth plans for 2024.

Miller Homes: A Year of Change and Growth

The start of a new year is synonymous with implementing change and setting goals to achieve. And that’s very much the case for one of the UK’s leading housebuilders, Miller Homes. They’ve already seen and are preparing for lots more change since the turn of the year, all in anticipation of business growth. We find out more about their plans, what the future has in store, and what’s new at Miller Homes.

New Chairman for Miller Homes

An announcement was made at the start of the year, that the former Redrow Plc Chairman, Richard Akers has been appointed the new Chairman of Miller Homes. The appointment comes after the retirement of former Miller Homes chair, Chris Endsor who spent nearly half of his 45-year career working for the housebuilder.

With a career spent in property and acquisition, Akers brings a wealth of experience, leadership and sector insight to the chairman role. As well as chairing Redrow until its merger with Barratt last year, Akers spent twenty years with Land Securities and a further ten years in non-executive director roles with Barratt Developments.

The depth and breadth of Akers’ experience is undoubtedly welcomed by Miller Homes as they look to continue into the new year with their growth plans of reaching 6,000 new homes a year.

St Modwen Homes Acquisition

Back at the end of 2024, Miller Homes confirmed they had agreed to buy rival housebuilder St Modwen Homes. The deal sees Miller Homes acquire 19 live sites with an approximate total of 3,500 plots for new homes, as well as another five strategic sites.

This acquisition is key to Miller Homes’ growth strategy, helping the housebuilder reach its goal of building 6,000 new homes a year. It will also give the housebuilder a presence in the South West alongside expanding its operations in other areas such as the East Midlands, West Midlands and the south of the country.

The plan moving forward is for Miller Homes to continue to operate the acquired new business under the St Modwen Homes brand. With both businesses having a five-star builder rating and being aligned in their approach to excellent quality and customer experience, there will be a natural continuation in the delivery of high-quality, sustainable new homes.

The deal is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in Q1 of this year.
