New homes flourish in Scotland

New homes flourish in Scotland
There has been a steady increase in the number of new build homes in Scotland over the last few years. In fact, figures from the last 12 months show new home building has increased by 15% compared to last year, with a rise of 3,000 new properties brought to market.

Record number of completions
For the year ending December 2018, there were a total of 20,255 new build homes completed. This figure considers all sectors, including social housing. And if you compare the number to the year previously, it’s 15% higher, with 2,669 more homes built. Of these, there were 1,491 (11%) that equated to homes completed for the private sector. And overall, the figure for 2018 banked the highest number of property completions in a year since 2008.

Private sector properties
Taking a closer look at the private sector specifically, during the latter end of 2018, there were 4,551 homes completed in Scotland between October 2018 and December 2018. If you compare these numbers to the same quarter of 2017, there were 41% more (1,328 homes) built. For the whole year, this brought the total to 15,152 properties which saw an 11% increase compared to the 13,661 completions in 2017.

Popular new locations in Scotland
Compared to the rest of Britain, Glasgow and its surrounding areas have seen a consistent uplift in home sales. In fact, the Glasgow region has seen record levels of house price inflation over the last 12 months, while in more Southern parts of Britain we’re seeing a slowdown. Areas such as Govanhill, Shawlands, Langside and Battlefield are all reaching record levels of property sales. And there’s a growing number of first-time buyers returning to the Govanhill area.
