For energy efficiency, choose new

For
energy efficiency, choose new
As
climate change continues to top the agenda, we’re all looking to be more energy
efficient. Especially when doing so helps reduce bills as much as carbon
emissions.
Today, regardless of the type or age of the property being bought, sold or let,
an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is required. The certificate outlines
the estimated running costs of a home. Different aspects of the property are
graded, from the walls, roof, windows and central heating systems to establish
a grading for its overall energy efficiency. The higher the efficiency of the
property, the lower the running costs are. And when it comes to the most
efficient properties to buy, new build homes lead the way.

New build homes are cheaper to run
The average new build home buyer can save £52 a month on energy bills
thanks to the energy efficiency of new homes, according to The Home Builders
Federation. And in a world of increasing energy and living costs, that’s a
significant saving. Nowadays new build homes are built to much higher standards.
In fact, energy efficiency is considered from the very beginning of their
design. The most up-to-date technology and materials are used within new build
homes. You can expect to find superior insulation, double glazing with argon
gas which lets the sun in but reduces heat loss, condensing boilers and modern
heating systems. The inclusion of such items helps to improve energy efficiency
and therefore reduce energy bills.

And they’re better for the planet
It’s not just cost savings – with a more energy-efficient new build home,
you are reducing your carbon footprint. Compared to older properties, new homes
use on average more than 60% less energy compared to existing homes, or older
properties. And with most new home developers installing appliances with the
highest energy efficiency ratings, there is even more appeal for buying new.

Where can I find energy efficient homes?
Pretty much everywhere if you’re looking to buy new. But, some of the new
build homes we have available for sale which boast excellent energy efficiency
include those from developers Miller Homes. Within properties from Miller Homes
you can expect to find energy-efficient appliances with the highest ‘A’ rating
as well as water efficient sanitary systems and low energy lighting, including
sometimes LED lighting, to help keep home running costs even lower.
