Historical Cambusbarron
The area is steeped in history with evidence of a settlement site since the Bronze Age and several forts dating back to the Iron Age.
Gillies Hill close to Cambusbarron is a large woodland area that houses a variety of unusual wildlife. It is also thought that Robert the Bruce set up camp there before the Battle of Bannockburn.
During the nineteenth century, Cambusbarron grew due to the opening of the Hayford Mill established in 1834. This was a wool spinning mill and provided the largest source of employment in Cambusbarron. The Mill at one time was the single largest producer of Tweed in Scotland.
